Legislators put Gov Saraki on
Toes over Contracts

As the economic and Financial Crime Commisison (EFCC) tightens its
noose on public officers, Kwara State House of Assembly has called
on Governor Bukola Saraki to ensure strict adherence on due process
in awarding contracts.
Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Isah Bio made the
call while the committee on Works and Transport presented its report
on the on-going road projects to the State House of Assembly in
Ilorin.
Hon. Bio urged the Governor to always screen contractors in the area
of technical know-how, equipments and their financial strength. He
maintained that the process will ensure that competent contractors
are given jobs to handle for the state.
The Speaker also advised the governor to make use of capable
consultants to evaluate contractual jobs noting that the process
will allow for design of necessary features to be included in the
contract sum.
According to him, “many contractors in Nigeria are in the habit of
executing shoddy jobs” pointing out that “it is only true serious
surveillance that shy luck contractors can be checkmated”.
The Speaker commended the Governor for embarking on the construction
of major roads in the state since 2003. He added that the gesture of
the governor has brought a lot of relief to road users in the state.
Olamaboro LGA Constitutes Legislative Arm
Leader Lauds PDP Faithfuls
Olamaboro Local Government Council has constituted its legislative
arm with Hon. Okoliko Isah Michael (Alias Gallop) elected as the
leader.
Constituting the law-making arm of the council area, the Executive
Chairman, Hon. Yunusa Olofu urged the councillors’ to work as a team
and help the executive arm to bail the area out of underdevelopment.
Other members of the legislature include Hon. Audu Adeyi (Deputy
Speaker), Hon. Musa Adama (Majority Speaker), Hon. Samson Ebiloma
(Chief Whip), Hon. Sadiq Ahmed (Rep Imane Ward II), Hon. Sadauna
Ameh (Ogugu Representative), Hon. Siriki Umar (Olamaboro III Rep),
Hon. Amos Idokoko (Inele Ward Rep) and Hon.Idris Abdullahi (Olamaboro
Ward I Rep).
The leader, Hon. Okoliko said he owe his emergence to the tireless
effort of the council Chairman (Hon. Olofu) Hon. Zakari Ohiemi of
Kogi Satte House of Assembly, Chief Sylvester Onoja, Chief
Christopher Eneche and the PDP Chairman of the LGA, Alhaji Abubakar
Usman.
According to the legislative leader, others who ensured the
successful conduct of the election include Hon. Noah Adejo,(Oda
Ojiji ragent), Andrew Ameloko, Malam Mohammed Abubakar,Mrs. Joan
Ejeh, women Leader, Mr. Sylvester Ameloko, Alhaji Yakubu Mohammed,
Chief James Akor and Sir William Odoguje and a host of others.
The legislative leader urged fellow councillors to form a united
front and avoid bickering that had hitherto dominated the affairs of
the council.
CNPP Urges Opposition Parties to Soft Pedal

Aggrieved politicians who are still contesting the outcome of the
last gubernatorial re-run election have been called upon to lay down
their arms to enable the state move forward.
Leader of Kogi State Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP),
Hon. Onuh Farouq made the call while briefing newsmen on the
seventeenth anniversary of the creation of Kogi State.
Hon. Farouq noted that Governor Ibrahim Idris is a humane politician
who has instituted good governance in the state. He added that the
governor has also ensured peace and unity in the state.
In his words “the state was almost divided along tribal sentiment
before Alhaji Idris took over as the State Governor”. He maintained
that “the state today is witnessing relative peace due to his good
administration”.
Hon. Farouq also called on Kogi electorate to support Governor Idris
in his drive to fast track the development of the state. He stressed
that under Alhaji Idris administration Kogi has remained as an
indivisible entity.
The CNPP leader also debunked rumours making round in the country
that the opposition were plotting to topple the administration of
Alhaji Umar Ya’Adua. He stated that the rumour was baseless and
without any iota of truth.
Ankpa Vice Chairman Canvasses for Team Work in Councils
Ankpa Local Government Vice Chairman Hon. Ibrahim Abagwu has
declared that as a team player with the elected council Chairman, he
would work for the development of the area. Ankpa he said, had
suffered neglect which team spirit should now redress.
Hon. Abagwu who made this known in a chat with The Graphic in Ankpa
noted that what is needed in moving the council area forward is good
team work among the leaders of the area. He pointed out that team
work is an invitation to collective success.
The Vice-Chairman described his boss, Hon. Vincent Baba as “a
humble, focused and visionary leader”. He maintained that he is very
optimistic that the council would soon witness innovative ideas as
the elected leaders would seek means for alleviating the sufferings
of the people.
Hon. Abagwu noted that the leadership of the council would follow
the steps of Governor Ibrahim Idris and President Umar Yar’Adua’s
seven-point agenda in moving Ankpa forward. He maintained that
programmes that would improve the welfare of the electorate are
already in the pipeline.
According to him, “the democratization of the third tier of
government in the state is for the good of the people” adding that
“the electorate can now voice out their opinions through their
elected representatives”.
Hon. Abagwu commeded Ankpa electorate for making the wise choice of
electing them into office. He stressed that the elected council
leaders will work for the speedy development of the area.
He also advised those who lost the chances of being elected into the
council to eschew bitterness and work for socio-economic
transformation of the area.
Ofu Council Boss Challenges Female Agriculturists
Ofu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ene’Ojo Peters Omachi, has
charged the association of Women in Agriculture (WIA) in the Local
Government to strive to brace up to the challenges of producing food
to supplement the existing rate of production.
Hon. Omachi who gave the challenge in a message to the members of
the association during their annual outing at the Local Government
Secretariat, Ugwolawo, promised to allocate fertilizer and farm land
to them for the cultivation of cassava and other staple food.
The Chairman who was represented at the occasion by the Vice
Chairman of the council, Hon. Ayatu Yakubu, commended the women in
Agriculture and Natural Resources Department for their initiative
and enjoined them to mobilize women in other department to join the
association.
In his remarks, the Head of Agriculture Department of the Local
Government represented by Elder Joseph Itodo commended the WIA for
its laudable achievement and advised the members to work as a team
and avoid rumours which he described as counterproductive.
Earlier, the President of WIA, Mrs. Christiana Ebune declared that
the association was formed to promote unity and love among the women
in the department.
Mrs. Ebune noted that the association through the Special Programme
on Food Security (SPFS) had constructed a Ventilated Improved Pit
(VIP) toilet at the Local Government Secretariat. She appealed to
the council Chairman to assist the association with a farmland to
enable it realize its programme on large scale vegetable and cassava
production.
Councillor Vows to address Shortage of Drugs

A councilor representing Angwa unit of Ukwaja ward in Idah Local
Government Council, Hon. Shehu Musa Ohiado has promised to address
the problems of shortage of clinical materials lacking in the ward.
Hon.Ohiado made the pledge while commending the people of the ward,
for voting him to serve.
He further promised to channel the problem of Inachalo River which
has been diverstated by sand to the council for proper usage by the
people of Idah and its environs.
The councilor disclosed that he would do everything human possible
to ensure a clean environment in his ward, adding that he would make
sure refuse dump would be cleared soon.
He commended the state Governor, Alahji Ibrahim Idris for his
developmental strides in the state and urged Chairmen and
Councillors in the state to justify the mandate given to them by the
electorates.
He also called on the people of the ward and the entire community to
co-operate with the present administration for the over all growth
of the state.
The councillor used the occasion to appeal to the youths in the area
not to do anything that would tarnish their image and urged them to
engage in a useful ventures.
