Erred Principals to be Demoted as Class Teachers

By John Okekwu
Following the deliberation on the report of an ad-hoc committee set up by Kogi State House of Assembly to investigate the removal from office of Mr. TJ Abdullahi and Mr. I.A Agbali as principals of Government Secondary School (GSS), Ologba and Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Dekina respectively, the House has directed that the affected principals be posted to other schools as classroom teachers.
The directive was given to the Teaching Service Commission and Ministry of Educattion by the speaker, Hon. Clarence Olafemi, after the report was subjected to a thorough debate by members who finally arrived at the conclusion that the ministry of Education should temper justice with mercy and reabsorb the dismissed principals and should be posted out to other schools to serve as deterrent to others.
The two embattled principals, (Mr. Abdulahhi of GSS Ologba and Mr. Aghali of GDSS Dekina) had petitioned the House of Assembly alleging that they were wrongly removed from office by the Commissioner for Education and urged the House to intervene and reinstate them.
The report of the ad-hoc committee which was presented by its chairman, Hon. Jatto Idris. Adamu indicted the two principals of dereliction of duty as well as being recalcitrant towards carrying out directives from the teaching service commission.
The committee however, advised that subsequent action on any such officers should be thoroughly handled by disciplinary committee with application of due process before being subjected to such punishment as removal from office.
The committee also recommended that under no circumstances should Teaching Service Commission allow a principal to spend more than three years in a particular school so as to avoid undue behaviour.
