School Principals Warned over Private Candidates

Kogi State Government has vowed to deal ruthlessly with any principal of Secondary School in the state who allows external candidate to register for National Examination Council (NECO) and West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) in their various schools.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Chief Sylvester Onoja, who gave the warning while monitoring the conduct of the on-going NECO Examination across the state, noted that some principals still register external candidates to sit for NECO Examination in the schools despite the earlier warning.
He expressed dismay over the principals’ non-compliance with the Ministry’s directive not to allow the registration of external candidates for WAEC and NECO, stressing that such candidates are supposed to register for external General Certificate Examination (GCE) in October/November.
Chief Onoja observed that most of the examination malpractices and mis-conducts such as threatening to fight the invigilators during the examination are perpetrated by the so-called external candidates who want to get success by all means.
He also urged the principals in the state to operate their academic activities within the confine of the school academic calendar issued by the Ministry of Education, noting with dismay that many schools were on vacation during his visit.
Chief Onoja explained that no principal has authority to close down the school after the completion of terminal examinations, saying that the schools must close according to the date of closure contained in the school calendar.
