Kogi Speaker Gets another Title

By Nathaniel Drisu
The chieftaincy title of Omachi Eje Dekina conferred on the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Clarence Olafemi, by the Eje of Dekina, H.R.H, Alhaji (Dr.) Usman Obaje, has been attributed to the legislator’s integrity and diligence.
Governor Ibrahim Idris, who said he was not surprised about the honour, reiterated that as Speaker of the House, both Rt. Hon. Olafemi and the rest 24 legislators, irrespective of their different political parties, had always partnered with him for effective state administration.
He gave the assessment in Dekina, headquarters of Dekina Local Government Area, during the investiture of the Speaker by the Eje of Dekina.
According to him, “I am not surprised about the honour; it is the gain of his integrity and good job. The House is the most peaceful in the entire country due to the Speaker’s dynamism”.
The Eje of Dekina, HRH Alhaji (Dr.) Obaje, disclosed that members of Dekina Traditional Council resolved to organize a grand reception for the Speaker in addition to the investiture because of his contribution to the development of the state.
He described the faithfulness displayed by Hon. Olafemi during his stewardship as Acting Governor of the state as a feat, saying “a little thing is a little thing but the faithfulness in a little thing is great”.
Corroborating, the Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Ikani Benjamin Okolo, stated that “this great gathering is to honour one of our own, an enviable gentleman, a leader par excellence whose selfless leadership style has positive impacts in the sustenance of good virtues of democracy in the state”.
Recipient of the title, Hon. Olafemi, who expressed gratitude for the honour, thanked the Attah Igala, Obaro of Kabba and Eje of Ankpa for such gestures.
He traced his political success to the pivotal role of Governor Idris saying, “God brought me near a man whose destiny hangs on his neck”.
