KOGI State Executive Council has approved a supplementary budget of
about N13.6 billion, bringing the total budget for the 2008 fiscal
year to about N66 billion. Over N53 billion was earlier appropriated
for businesses of the State Government.
The State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Tom Ohikere informed
journalists about the development immediately after the Council
deliberated on it, saying its bill would be submitted to the State
House of Assembly for final approval.
Dr. Ohikere stated that the supplementary budget is intended to
facilitate the dualization of Lokoja-Ganaja Road, construction of
Ganaja-Ajaokuta Road and the establishment of College of Education
(Technical) at Kabba.
The Commissioner, who revealed that over N20 million had also been
approved for the landscaping of Lokoja, added that the renovation
earlier approved for Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation had been
cash-backed.
While he hinted that the state government had resolved to place
tender for erosion control at Ankpa and Imane, Dr. Ohikere said the
Council was impressed by the aggregate work on the government’s 20
housing units in each of the 21 local government areas of the state.
He further intimated the media men that the government had evolved a
new policy on internal revenue generation, with an affirmation that
government would henceforth discontinue the involvement of
consultancy services in revenue drive.
On health, he said government would intensify efforts to be one of
the leading states that face polio menace frontally, adding that
plans are on top gear to accredit the School of Health Technology,
Idah.
According to the Commissioner, the Council was worried about the
incessant crises in Kogi Central, with the aim of urging
stakeholders in the area to come to a round-table and resolve their
differences.
